How to build a semantic core by yourself?

If you want to collect your requests by yourself, we will show you how to do it in free ways:

  • use search engine hints (those same drop-down hints when you just start typing your query in a search). For example, you have an online clothing store, there is a category of evening dresses, we start typing in the search bar – buy an evening .. and we get a lot of options.
  • use the box under the search results “Together with … often searches”. Also get options for how people search for your product or service
  • use the service of selecting keywords in contextual advertising for Yandex – Wordstat, for Google Keyword Planner (Tip – in Wordstat you can find a much larger number of low-frequency queries, Google gives out more generalized statistics)
  • if you’re lucky, competitors may have an open LiveInternet counter, but this luck borders with fantasy
  • own data on requests for which there were transitions to the site (if the site has existed for some time and any traffic analytics system is installed on it)

Tip # 1

Don’t get hung up on the exact occurrence of phrases – if in the semantic core you have a phrase – “buy a dress Kharkov” – this does not mean that you need to write this way on your site.

This means that the words buy, dress and Kharkov should be found on the page that is optimized for such a request, but this should be adequate. For example, you have the phrase “buy a dress” in your text and the page contains a block “We deliver to cities …” and here the word Kharkov will fit perfectly logically.

Tip # 2

The more detailed you divide your semantic core into groups, the easier it will be to optimize the page. Agree that it is beautiful to use in one sentence, which will sound both in the title and in the description and in the text, all words from a group are easier when there are fewer words in the group. For orientation – 10-15 phrases will be enough.

However, when dividing the list of queries (semantic core) into groups, you should still be guided by logic and common sense, and not quantitative indicators. If it seems to you that there are a lot of phrases in the group – think, maybe they do have logical differences and it is better to split the group into several, in order to then optimize your page for each group.

“I am picking a topic”: if you still have a group of logically related queries, but it is too big and it seems to be necessary to break it up, but the queries are all about the same in different words – remember that on the site you can often find the same similar pages.

For instance:

– dresses to the floor to buy
– long dress buy kiev
– long dress buy
– maxi dresses
– dress maxi buy
– buy maxi dress kiev etc.

and you have 30 requests.

You can divide them into semantic similar groups – “long” into one group, “maxi” into another – and optimize traditionally the 1st page of the long dresses catalog for one group, and the pagination page (2nd page) of the long dresses catalog for the second group … There will be more groups, more pagination pages can be used for optimization.
